Pittenweem

Working in Pittenweem Harbour presented unique challenges, including a busy environment, engagement with the local community, and navigating numerous underground services. The project involved redirecting the existing sewer system to a newly installed precast Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO).
Careful planning and coordination were essential to minimize disruption while ensuring the safe and efficient completion of the works. APL Construction successfully delivered this project, demonstrating expertise in urban and coastal infrastructure while maintaining strong community relations and safety standards.

Killearn

APL Construction successfully completed a 375mm sewer pipeline installation for AG Wilson, overcoming complex ground conditions to deliver a durable and effective drainage solution.
The project included multiple manholes up to 5.5m deep and an outfall section, with embankment protection using sandbags and rip-rap rocks to prevent erosion and ensure long-term stability. Working in soft clay conditions required precision, caution, and expert groundwork techniques to maintain safety and efficiency throughout the process.
This project showcases our ability to tackle challenging environments, delivering high-quality civil engineering solutions with a strong focus on durability and environmental protection.

Stow Embankment Repair

At APL Construction, we are committed to innovative and environmentally friendly solutions. Our latest project focuses on embankment erosion repair using Rock Bags, a sustainable alternative to traditional methods.

Made from recycled polyester (PET) and filled with coarse aggregate, these Rock Bags offer immediate scour protection while supporting aquatic life and minimising environmental impact. Their rapid deployment, adaptability to uneven terrain, and elimination of concrete and heavy civil works make them a highly effective erosion control solution.

Boughden Braes Pipe Bridge

APL Construction was contracted by CWA to install a 1-mile sewer pipeline, enhancing wastewater infrastructure and network capacity.

The project required the pipeline to cross a river at two locations, necessitating carefully planned installation methods to ensure structural integrity and minimal environmental impact. To enable safe access for construction crews and equipment, three temporary bridges were erected, allowing efficient progress on both sides of the river.

This project highlights APL Construction’s expertise in delivering complex infrastructure solutions, overcoming logistical challenges while upholding the highest safety and quality standards.

Bran Sands

APL Construction was engaged by Avove Utility to deliver a 220m-long precast retaining wall in Middlesbrough, designed to contain water within a wastewater treatment site and prevent external seepage.
The project involved the installation of 1.5m-high precast concrete wall sections, with a protective membrane placed underneath and behind the wall to ensure an effective water barrier. Precision engineering and careful site management were key to the successful delivery of this project, maintaining the highest safety and quality standards while ensuring environmental compliance.

This project highlights APL Construction’s expertise in delivering specialist water containment solutions, reinforcing our commitment to high-quality civil engineering

Craigend

In 2024, APL Construction, in collaboration with CWA, was engaged to deliver a critical sewer infrastructure project in Fife, enhancing wastewater management and network resilience.

The project involved the installation of a 500m-long sewer pipeline, with half the length of the project laid underground and the remaining half constructed as an elevated 400mm ductile iron (DI) pipe, supported by 23 structural piers. This complex installation required precision engineering to ensure stability, durability, and seamless integration with the existing network.

With a project value of approximately £1 million, this work highlights APL Construction’s expertise in delivering high-quality civils solutions while maintaining the highest safety and environmental standards.

Montgarrie Septic Tanks

APL have been contracted to upgrade and replace existing septic tanks currently operating at over capacity to permit future developments in the area. We are installing a new flow splitting chamber and 2 new 36m3 GRP underground septic tanks with desludging pipework and associated civil engineering works

Strathmiglo Bank Erosion

APL Construction were engaged to install river bank protection along a stretch of river to protect existing Scottish Water assests and river bank including rock protection structures and brushwood faggots

Vacuum Excavator

APL Construction have Vacuum Excavator units available for hire on operated day-rate or contract works, these are particularly popular when working around a large number of other/unknown services such as water mains bursts reducing the risk of damaging other services. Laighpark Substations

As part of a works package on behalf of Ferrier Pumps, APL Construction carried out civil works and construction of 3 no. substations at Laighpark WwTW

Anstruther Cladding

APL were engaged by Amey to replace the tired and damaged cladding on an existing treatment works building near Anstruther. we completed the project on time and on budget to the satisfaction of our client and Scottish Water

Brandon Gardens

APL Construction were engaged by Amey Binnies to deliver a package of civils works in Prestwick to remove residential properties from Flood risk register
Brandon Gardens included 6m length interlocking sheet pile coffer dam, 1000mm dia. weholite pipe nest and associated network upgrades back to existing infrastructure
St Nicholas Road involved upgrades in main sewer pipe from 225mm up to maximum size storage pipe 900mm and sewer riders running parallel to new pipework to catch lateral connections
